Mathew Cuthbert lived with his sister Marilla on their farm on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Their farmhouse, Green Gables, was just outside the little village of Avonlea. Mathew was nearly sixty and had a ling brown beard. His sister was five years younger. However, It's hard for them to work in their farm. Therefore, they decided to get a boy from orphanage.

Surprisingly, Their was a young girl who had a red hair. At first, Mathew was confused, but because he was so kind, he took her home.

This girl's name is Anne. From this day, the old brother and Anne's life with mountains and valleys begins.
